The California Cadet Corps (CACC)

Developing Leaders Since 1911!

WHAT IS THE CALIFORNIA CADET CORPS?

The California Cadet Corps (CACC) is a state-funded, school-based leadership and educational program that prepares students to become confident leaders, engaged citizens, and resilient individuals. Founded in 1911, the program is administered by the California Military Department under the Youth and Community Programs Task Force of the California National Guard.

Our goal is to create structured, team-based environments where students thrive—not through rigid hierarchy, but through routine, responsibility, and hands-on learning that teaches life-long skills.

MISSION

To create outstanding leadership development opportunities for students.

VISION

To transform students into tomorrow’s leaders and community builders.

WHAT WE ARE—AND WHAT WE’RE NOT

  • 🚫 We are not a boot camp
  • 🚫 We are not a military recruitment program
  • 🚫 We are not a credit recovery or at-risk youth intervention program
  • ✅ We are a structured, elective-based leadership program aligned with California’s A–G academic standards.
  • ✅ We are a pathway for young people who want to lead, serve, and build their futures—whether in college, public service, or their community.
  • ✅ We are a statewide program offering hands-on experiences, statewide competitions, and immersive summer training opportunities that empower students to grow into capable, confident leaders.

A PROGRAM BUILT FOR REAL-WORLD GROWTH

The Cadet Corps curriculum focuses on the whole student—not just academic success, but personal growth, social-emotional intelligence, and readiness for life after graduation. We emphasize:

  • Leadership & Team-Building
  • Civic Engagement & Citizenship
  • Health & Wellness
  • Emergency Preparedness
  • Career Exploration
  • Community Service
  • Interpersonal and Professional Skills

  • The Cadet Corps is a co-curricular elective, operating during the school day or as an after-school enrichment program. It is available for students in grades 4 through 12, depending on district structure.
  • CACC courses follow the Carnegie Unit model, awarding up to 10 elective credits per year.
  • Programs can be approved as “G” Electives under California’s A–G system for college prep.
  • Commandants (instructors) are fully credentialed through the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing with a Designated Subject, Special Subjects, Basic Military Drill Credential.
  • Every Cadet Corps program is hosted on a school campus and tied to the school’s academic program.
