What is the Drill Instructor Course?
The Cadet Drill Instructor Course is a comprehensive training program that teaches cadets how to become effective drill instructors. This course covers a range of topics, including drill and ceremony techniques, teaching methods, leadership, and communication skills. Cadets who complete this course will have the knowledge and skills necessary to lead drill instruction sessions for other cadets and ensure that their unit is well-prepared for military ceremonies and events. The Cadet Drill Instructor Course is a valuable experience for cadets who are interested in developing their leadership abilities and taking on additional responsibilities within their unit.
Cadet DI Course:
- Minimum grade: Incoming 9th grader
- Cadets entering 9th grade (just completing 8th grade) must provide a Commandant Recommendation verifying that they are experienced in drill and ceremonies and regularly participate in drill with their unit.
- Experience:
- Minimum of two years of active drill experience or successful completion of a Drill & Ceremonies Course
- Reserve cadets are not recommended unless they regularly participate in drill instruction and practice with their assigned home unit.
- Minimum rank of C/SSG*
- Must be able to safely participate in daily physical training.
This unit is open to cadets who have completed at least the 8th grade and possess a strong foundation in drill and ceremonies. Cadets must be in good physical condition and able to perform daily physical training comfortably. A high level of self-discipline, attention to detail, and professionalism is expected throughout the course.
Cadet DI Course Prerequisites:
Cadet Senior DI Course:
- Successful Completion of Cadet DI Course
- Be in good physical condition, able to perform and lead daily physical training/exercises comfortably
- Minimum rank of C/SFC
- Minimum grade of incoming 10th grader
- Email from 1LT Torres accepting you into the Senior DI program
- (Email request, your qualifications and reason you want to be an SDI to 1LT Torres to receive Acceptance Letter)
This course is open to cadets who have successfully completed the Cadet Drill Instructor Course and seek to earn the Senior Drill Instructor qualification. During this course, SDI candidates will assist in instructing both the Drill and Ceremonies Course and the Cadet Drill Instructor Course.
Cadets who successfully complete the Senior Drill Instructor Course will be prepared to teach, mentor, and supervise drill and ceremonies at their schools and Corps-wide and are authorized to wear the Campaign (DI) Hat (not provided).
